The MLA was formed to represent the interests of the residents of our lake community.  It is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization.  The Board of Directors is elected by the members in accordance with our By-law, and the Directors then elect the Officers of the MLA.  The Officers consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  All Directors also serve on the Executive Committee of the MLA.

Until May 2015, the affairs of the Association were managed by a single committee, which was the Executive Committee.  However, with the launching of the Mississippi Lake Plan in 2015, it became evident that a more elaborate management structure would be required.  As a result, three new Committees were struck, each empowered to act in accordance with its terms of references, and to report to the Executive Committee on a regular basis for further guidance and direction.  A Director is appointed as Chair of each Committee.

Our Communities

Mississippi Lake borders on four municipal jurisdictions.  The MLA works closely with those municipal Councils to seek a coordinated approach to developing policies and procedures.  Over the decades, we have developed a healthy relationship with the Councils, and we will continue to foster a productive atmosphere of cooperation and respect.  We are proud to be working with the community representatives of:

Town of Carleton Place

Beckwith Township

Mississippi Mills Township

Drummond North Emsley Township

Our Partners

The MLA is not alone in striving for a healthy environment.  As well as having formed close ties with local governments, the MLA works closely with other government and private agencies, and other like-minded citizens groups, to ensure a coordinated effort.  Among our partners, we are proud to include:

Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority

Watersheds Canada

Lake Links Working Group

Canadian Wildlife Federation

Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists (MVFN)
